The Wrapping Paper
Volume 3 Issue 5 February 1997
Flash! RWU will work with Grammy's to pick up leftovers from events.
Happy Valentine's Day! Much has happened in the past four weeks to grow our base of operation. We welcome on board Metallica and The Smashing Pumpkins for renewing with us their Winter Tour. We also wish the SP luck with their multiple Grammy nominations. Ross Duncan, Bush's tour manager, called today and has committed the band, again, for their United Kingdom and North American tour to fight hunger through our organization.
Our Regional Director in Cleveland, John Lawless, is on the verge, with his band, Brigadier, of signing a major record deal. It will be great to have one of our own put Rock and Wrap It Up! in a touring contract! A meeting took place this month with The United Nations World Hunger Programme's North American Office. Director Douglas Coutts and Public Affairs Officer Michael Ross met with myself and Lloyd Gold. We put forth an ambitious agenda whereby both of our organizations can plan short and long term projects which would be mutually beneficial. More to come in the coming issues.
We have been faxed a personal memo issued from the White House and signed by President Bill Clinton promoting food recovery activities. This memo is in the form of a policy to require federal agencies to increase donations.
We welcome new volunteers Tania Bikerman (Pittsburgh PA), Michael Harantz (Elizabethtown PA), Betsy Rosenberg (Boise ID), Kitty Bennett (St. Petersburg FL), Meredith Poldrack (San Antonio TX), Gail Root (Knoxville TN), Jeff Croft (Portland ME), and Jeff Firestone (Ft. Lauderdale FL).
We received national publicity on the Public Radio show Marketplace. This program aired on December 27 at 7pm and was produced by Dan Snyder. Copies of this and the two other National Radio interviews are available upon request. Look for the March Good Housekeeping issue to hit the shelves around February 10. This will be a major indroad for our organization.
Phil Collins North American tour will start around March 1. We will get a mailing in mid February with letter and dates for our regional directors. Through the efforts of MC Serch (formerly of the rap band Third Bass and curently with Non-Phixion on Serchlite/Geffen records), we have been asked to coordinate with the many parties happening on Grammy Night. We will work with our own people and City Harvest in NYC.
Best wishes to RD Michelle Hilse in her fight against Hodgkin's Disease. Please call her with well wishes at 1-310-624-5812. Please consider sending her your old or new plush animal toys (her choice of soldiers in this battle).
Managers, please remember to include Rock and Wrap It Up! in any foundation or charity which your artist works with. We are a non-profit with a 501(C)3 and really need the funding! We thank Legal Sea Foods (Boston MA), Dr. Paul Zablow (East Orange NJ), Ms. Barbara Bagner (Woodmere NY), Hard Rock Cafe (New York NY), and Mr. Danny Siegel (Rockville MD) for the generosity.
