About Hungerpedia.com
Rock and Wrap It Up! launched Hungerpedia.com on Monday July 18, 2011; the first encyclopedia of vetted anti-poverty agencies.
The Hungerpedia web destination is a North American compilation of anti-poverty/hunger agencies. It is presented by geography, asset needs and contact information. Hungerpedia is a destination which will enable potential donors to find suitable agencies to recover their assets, thus keeping them out of land-fill. Different anti-poverty agencies need food, toilet paper and tissue, shampoos and toiletries, small appliances, kitchen items, dorm room assets and funding. Recovering agencies are required to report asset recovery statistics to us. Assets kept out of land fill will be also listed on the E.P.A.'s Waste-wise program Agencies that are listed are vetted by Rock and Wrap It Up! and must have health certification, transportation, refrigeration, cell phones, storage and either have or support on-going anti-poverty/hunger programs.
Donors are protected from liability by the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act. (Pub. L. No 104-210, 110 Stat. 3011(1996). The U.S. passed the Federal Food Donation Act of 2008 to encourage federal agencies to donate excess for to the poor and keep it out of land fill. (Pul. L. 110-247 122 Stat. 2314(2008) Rock and Wrap It Up! introduced this legislation in response to documented increases in traffic in our nations' pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. It passes unanimously in House and Senate. Rock and Wrap It Up! is an international think tank working towards poverty reduction. By giving anti-poverty agencies assets which would normally be purchased, the funds which are saved are used to reduce the root causes of poverty.
